After more than 4 years of research and development carried out by our team based in Paris, EQUIMETRE has received the last international Arioneo’s patents WIPO | PCT and US Patent Application Publication. These electrodes are the key to obtain a fine electrocardiogram at full speed. They are a key asset for veterinarians and researchers.
INTERNATIONAL PATENTS FOR UNIQUE ELECTRODES
Electrodes, a major technological evolution, can overcome three major obstacles: the horse’s hair, the thickness of its skin, and intense vibration during the exercise. The Equimetre electrodes were created using a fusion of unique materials specially designed for the equine athletes. They are immersed in a foam that’s wipes off the horse’s perspiration while ensuring good conduction of the heart signal by softening the contact with the horse’s skin to avoid injuries. These electrodes are internationally patented.
They allow to capture the horse’s heart signal through the hair throughout the entire effort so that we can obtain an electrocardiogram (ECG) in the box but also while galloping at more than 60km/h.
ELECTRODES OF UNPARALLELED PRECISION
A very precise knowledge of the Heart Rate (HR) of the horses that are exercising allows to evaluate the intensity of the exercice compared to the speed of work and thus to analyse the time of recuperation needed in order to study more widely the different levels of forms of the horses.
A signal of unprecedented reliability ensures EQUIMETRE the best signal to noise ratio and thus ensures the highest accuracy of the heart rate and the electrocardiogram (ECG) while the horse is exercising.
Arioneo’s EQUIMETRE establishes itself as a partner in horse health and performance. The quality of measurements is such that they can be used to establish a diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmia based on the recorded electrocardiogram.

Heart rate analysis can lead to choices for the horse’s career. For example, the spacing between 2 races, which race to run first and the race distance. It is therefore essential to ensure the accuracy of the data.
The data can be analysed with the Kubios HRV® software thanks to which you can benefit from an EGC analysis service in the form of a complete report, realised in partnership with ESMP, Equine Sport Medecine Practice, specialised in internal and sports medecine for race horses.
WHAT CAN BE DETECTED THROUGH A LIVE AND HIGH SPEED ELECTROCARDIOGRAM?
With Equimetre Vet, veterinarians can obtain complete electrocardiograms of the horse activity session. They can thus couple this precious cardiological data with the other sports parameters calculated by Equimetre such as speed, cadence or amplitude. Some pathologies only manifest themselves while the horse is exercising. This is why the Equimetre’s electrodes are so important: they are the only ones capable of collecting such precise data even at 60km/h, all thanks to an ergonomic sensor.
Thanks to the detailed analysis of these exercising tests on the Equimetre platform, the veterinarian can thus detect:
- Arrhythmias: the link between arrhythmia and sudden death is particularly relevant for horses. The most common arrhythmia clinically observed in horses is atrial fibrillation.
- Cardiac variability
- Respiratory pathologies
Coupled with on-board endoscopies, lactate analyses, and echocardiography just after the exercise, the ECG analysis can detect other pathologies such as exercise-induced myocardial dysfunction.
